Abbey

Yesterday afternoon we had a wonderful new addition to our family…a puppy Her name is Abbey, and she is a lab retriever mix…we were told by the shelter that she might be around 3 months…but she looks to be a bit older…she is a big girl! And soo cute, too.

We picked her up on the way to drop me off at work, so I only had a few moments with her in the backseat. She seemed so scared, and sat down, leaning against my arm before licking my face and chewing on the buttons to my coat. At work, I let everyone know about her. When I came home, Abbey was cautious at first, but once she got a whiff of my hand, she got so excited and placed her head in my lap. My parents informed me that, after she had checked the house out, the first thing Abbey did was take a nap by my bed.

I take her out most of the time, since my dad had told me it would be my job, but he is starting to take her out also. Last night, I slept downstairs, where Abbey was in her crate, one that we got from a neighbor. She whimpered and barked, and when I went to the crate, she’d quiet down. Finally, I just made my bed right by her and slept facing the crate. However, she woke me up early so I took her out and she did her duty. Overall, last night I got 5 hours of sleep.

Today we gave her a bath, because she smelled so bad. She likes the sound of running water and will run up to any faucet that is on. But once she saw the water in the tub, she tried to get away. Dad had to help me wash and dry her. Afterwards, she went CRAZY! She ran in circles, pounced, tugged at carpet, threw her toys around. It was so funny, I was bent over laughing. Finally, she pooped out and slept. It’s great to have some life in the house. Abbey is like the little sister I always wanted, but never had.
